Yoga Teacher Training

300 Hours | Online + In-person | Jesus-Centered

Immerse yourself in a transformative 10-month journey of advanced yoga training, spiritual formation, and personal leadership.

Become a Master Yoga Instructor & Sought-After Space Holder

Completing your 200-hour yoga teacher training is like learning how to swim. You learn the basic strokes, the principles of water safety, and get just enough practice to splash around safely in the shallow end. For some folks, this is enough! They learned a new skill, expanded their comfort zone, and know just enough to get by if they ever find themselves in a body of water.

But for you, that 200-hour experience was not nearly enough. You caught a glimpse of how vast the ocean is and longed for the skills, experiences, and ability to venture into deep waters. You’re not a shallow-end kind of person, but sensed Love’s whisper calling you deeper from day one of training.

We see you. We know you. We’re those kind of people, too. And so we’ve developed a 300-hour yoga teacher training that goes deep into the heart of yoga and the heart of God.

This advanced training is unlike any other. It’s a 10-month journey of discipleship, spiritual formation, and high-level yoga training. When you graduate, you’ll not only be a Master Yoga Instructor but a sought-after space holder for others longing to encounter Jesus intimately.

Core Components

To facilitate this deep learning, we’ve shaped our training around three core components:

number one

Large Group Training Sessions happen one weekend a month on Zoom and will feature live lectures, discussion and practices. These sessions will be the main vehicle for our signature core curriculum.

number two

Small Group Meetings take place once a month and will focus on practice teaching, giving you immediate opportunities to implement your learning and get feedback.

number three

Spiritual Direction Sessions are offered individually and in a small group setting throughout this training so you can process in real-time how God is shaping you through your learning.

Woven throughout training is a rich reading list that will anchor your soul and guide our discussions.

“We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a physical experience.”

– Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

What You’ll Learn

A Deeply Integrated & Deeply Spiritual Curriculum

Our one-of-a-kind program blends advanced yoga training with deep spiritual formation so you can uncover your own God-given and God-reflecting voice.

The Yoga Abbey’s training will immerse you in three core pillars that, put together, create a deeply resourced and unique yoga teacher:

THE ART OF TEACHING YOGA

yoga as a practice

What makes a yoga teacher a good teacher? How do you sequence a class that’s wildly creative, accessible, and transformative? How can you apply yogic principles in a true and helpful way?

This pillar of our curriculum is a deep dive into the art of teaching, expanding your craft, and growing your understanding of yoga history and philosophy.

In addition to advanced asana, sequencing, and cueing techniques, you will learn a trauma-informed approach to yoga and how to teach restorative yoga, prenatal yoga, yoga for aging populations, and yoga for recovery.

Your confidence and skill set will soar as a teacher after these sessions.

EMBODYING & ABIDING

yoga as a state of being

Explore your sacred architecture, uncover your truest identity, and learn how to step into your fullest potential – body, soul, & Spirit.

Our study of anatomy will cover the science of pain and stretching, fascia, and the central nervous system, equipping you to listen to and learn from the stories your body is holding.

Our study of contemplative prayer practices will teach you to notice the interior movements of God within your own soul and how to hold space for others to do the same.

And our signature study on Biblical leadership, identity, and calling will help you understand your story, identify your unique giftings, and walk more fully in the healing offered in Christ.

This pillar is an invitation to step out from the freedom of being yourself, wholly beloved and uniquely called.

TAKING UP YOUR MAT

yoga as a way of life

So, what do you do with all this newfound information and transformation?

Glad you asked!

This pillar will help you to discern your calling and equip you to serve so that you can become the hands and feet of Jesus!

Highly practical and immediately attainable, these sessions will focus on Biblical leadership principles, fail-proof business practices and strategies to create and launch your yoga offerings. Together, we will learn how to create and market a thriving business around your teaching.

We will guide you in creating a Rule of Life, helping you develop a unique yoga offering that serves those God is calling you to bless, while learning how Ayurvedic practices can help you to follow Jesus in the unforced rhythms of grace.

How You’ll Integrate

Soul Care is at the heart of our training

Our souls crave witnesses to our transformation, which is why Small Groups are the foundation of our training. Each month, you’ll meet in a Small Group with fellow trainees and one of our leaders to practice teaching and receive real-time feedback and support. We’ll also have group Spiritual Direction sessions – an intimate, judgment-free, and sacred space designed to help you process your learning and be fully seen, just as you are.

Training Schedule

What sets our training apart from other online teacher trainings (among many things) is our emphasis on personalized contact with teachers and live instruction. Unlike most programs that leave you to navigate pre-recorded videos on your own, much of our training is LIVE, offering you continuous support, direct interaction, and real-time guidance every step of the way.

Trainee participation during these sessions is highly encouraged. To get the most out of this experience, you will be allowed to miss up to 10 live sessions and cannot miss two live weekends in a row. Recordings will be made available for the sessions you need to miss. Exceptions will be granted to trainees outside of North America (just reach out!).

You will meet monthly with a pre-assigned Small Group, once for practice teaching and once for group spiritual direction. You will be able to select a Small Group time that works best for your schedule. Full attendance and participation in your Small Group meetings is required.

Opportunity for Connection

Mercy Center Burlingame, CA

For years, our trainees have requested a training retreat, and we’re excited to offer it as part of our advanced 300 Hour program! This 4-night retreat at a San Francisco Bay area monastery is an optional opportunity to deepen your experience.

During the retreat, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in the rhythms of monastic life, contemplative prayer, and build deeper connections with your fellow trainees and lead instructors. Together, we’ll explore hands-on assists, advanced teaching techniques, leading workshops and retreats, and engaging in meaningful discussions on collaboration over competition.

As the culmination of our 10-month journey together, this retreat offers a transformative opportunity to reflect on all you’ve learned and experienced. It’s a time to deepen your practice, gain powerful insights, and celebrate how far you’ve come on your path as both a student and teacher. Trainees will receive priority access to reserve a spot before it opens to the public.

We’ll gather for this retreat in 2026. More details will be shared soon!

Register today and you’ll also receive:

The second monthly session includes a solution circle where the group encourages each other as they work through challenges within their ministry or yoga business.

The Leader’s Wing also includes a library of resources with over 40 recorded workshops focusing on serving specific populations, master classes from yoga instructors with established businesses, anatomy, and more.

Bonus #3: The Five Intentions Study

A 15-hour exploration of what the Bible teaches about God With Us (and how that changes everything)  – a $449 value!

Included in our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program, this signature course teaches the basis for Biblical embodiment.

We know the story of Jesus – God in the flesh, walking among us, teaching us about who God is and what relationship with Love itself looks like. But long before Jesus, God was reaching out to humanity, making a way for us to draw near and be with him.

And God With Us didn’t come to an end when Jesus stopped waking this earth. In fact, the Greek word used by the Apostle Paul to describe us Jesus-followers today is translated temple but it means so much more than that. Paul was referring to the holy of holies, the place in the ancient temple where God’s Spirit dwelt.

There is so much wisdom in the blueprint of the Tabernacle that we will draw from to teach us how to embrace our humanity and draw near to God who is always with us.

If you haven’t taken our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, completing this course before taking our 300 Hour program is required.

FAQs

What do I need for this training?

A yoga mat, two yoga blocks, one yoga strap, one bolster, and a blanket or towel that can be folded to the width of a yoga mat and provide adequate support for sitting.

A few selected books. We’ll follow up with a complete list soon.

A strong internet connection that allows you to stream live video and audio without any interruption is required. Because we don’t have the luxury of being together in person, it’s essential that we’re able to see and hear you clearly over Zoom.

An open mind, a willing heart, a teachable spirit, and a generous demeanor. Yoga teacher training is one of THE most rewarding and challenging experiences. You’ll be stretched physically, emotionally, and mentally as you dive deep into your own beliefs and experiences while being introduced to teachings and philosophies that may be totally new to you. There will be moments where you want to throw in the towel from pure exhaustion, moments of boredom and impatience as you listen to a fellow trainee stumble through their practice teaching, moments of heart-racing anxiety as you get up to practice teach, and moments of deep connection and joy as you step into a deeper knowing of God’s abiding love in and around you.

It’s a roller coaster journey, but reaching the end of it is immensely gratifying and life-changing!

Is this training Yoga Alliance certified?

Our 200-hour training is Yoga Alliance certified, and our 300-hour certification is currently pending. We fully anticipate its approval and will update this page when it is!

What if I need to miss a session?

To ensure comprehension, build rich relationships, and help you graduate on time, we highly encourage our trainees to participate in each training session live.

That being said, we understand that there are times when you will need to be absent from the live training sessions, and recordings will be made available for you to watch.

You will be allowed to miss up to 10 live sessions and cannot miss two live weekends in a row. Recordings will be made available for the sessions you need to miss. Exceptions will be granted to trainees outside of North America (just reach out!).

We ask that you watch the recordings within one week, or no later than your next scheduled Small Group meeting, as you will need to be caught up with the sessions to participate in your Small Group.

Your live attendance at Small Group meetings is required. You will be invited to select a Small Group meeting time that works best for your schedule. One Small Group make-up session will be scheduled for trainees who may need it.

What if I can’t attend the in-person retreat?

Attending the in-person retreat is optional and will not affect your graduation. You will receive your certificate of completion regardless of whether or not you decide to attend the retreat.

Do you have any scholarships?

We believe that when God calls someone to this work, He also provides a way. To honor that calling and make this training accessible, we’re offering partial scholarships. Learn more and apply here.

Is the 200 Hour or 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training right for me?

The 200 Hour program is the first level of Yoga Teacher Training. Having graduated from a 200 Hour program is a prerequisite for our 300 Hour program. The 200 Hour program you graduated from does not have to be our program, but if you graduated from a separate program, we ask that you complete our Five Intentions study before starting the 300 Hour program. This training is provided as a free bonus.

Can I take your 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training without having taken your 200 Hour program?

You need to have graduated from a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program before taking our 300 Hour program; however, it doesn’t have to have been our program. If you graduated from a different 200 Hour program, we ask that you complete our Five Intentions study before starting the 300 Hour program. This study will be provided as a free bonus.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

We would love to the opportunity to answer all your questions. Please email our training team at training@theyogaabbey.com.
